I can't believe it's Monday already....

All weekend I knew I wanted to cut back calories on Monday. Well, today is Monday and here we go........ the dreaded 'calorie counting'. A few years ago I did Nutrisystems and lost 22 lbs. It really worked. But after 3 years of not continuing my calorie counting I've put atleast 1/2 the weight back on. So, it's time to cut back again. This time I'll stick to my oatmeal, cheese sticks, veges, lean cuisines and other food items that work for me.

Todays tip was "Beat your caloric best". At the end of your cardio workout, take note of the calories your burned. Next time, do the same activity but try to beat that number- by 10, 50 or even 100 calories. Do it by increasing your speed or incline/resistance.

I have been good about writing my workouts in my 'Agassi inspired diary'. I decided to do a 1 hour cardio workout on 3 different machines. First eliptical for 20, then (ugg) the bike for 20 and finally a low impact, leisurely walk for 20 on the treadmill. But I made a point to push myself on the first 2 for a few extra minutes just to beat the caloric burn from last time. It was a small accomplishment, but I'll take it!

I talked to my friend Cloie this morning. She has been doing the p90x workout for a few weeks. She is going to start blogging on here her progress. I know I would love to see if it works. I've heard great things about it but would love to follow someones progress. Thanks Cloie!

  1. Just got out of the shower after 30 minutes on the elliptical. Did a "cardio" setting for my workout instead of "fatburn" like usual or "hill" like the other day.

Although I really need to lose weight, focusing on that in the past has not yielded results because I get too discouraged too easily. I'm now really trying to focus on making 30 minutes of some sort of exercise part of my life each and every day for the rest of my life. Hopefully, weight loss results will come from that.

But... in our world of instant gratification, now that I've been dedicated to exercising for a week or so, I realize how far I have to go to make it a habit and get the "hoped for" results of weight loss. So... I'm teetering on the edge between inspired and discouraged. It doesn't help that the only good place to put the elliptical is also RIGHT in front of the mirror over my dresser, and I got so hot I stripped down to my bike shorts and sports bra (Yikes!), so the "view" was a little unsettling! :->

But... some good things I've noticed already are that my mood is more consistent, I have a little less anxiety, and (stop reading here if you'd rather not get into a "TMI zone") my bowels have been more regular and I'm not having as much gas.

So... in trying to always look on the bright side of life, I'll try to focus on the "instant gratification benefits" I've already experienced.

  2. My friend use to do P90X. She loved it. We now do Crossfit together. It has totally changed my mindset. I really want to see what my body is capable of doing. I want to eat better so that I perform better.
I am trying to eat less processed food. It's hard but I really think I feel better for it.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us Kathy!

  3. alright, I forgot to say that the kickboxing was really not a class at the gym but P90x Kempo workout. sorry if anyone went looking on the amfam schedule. I was intimidated by the program but when I took the pre fit test, it said I could do it...so I jumped in...and I'm trying not to look back :o). It's a 6 day pretty straight forward workout each day, but it does exhaust your muscles(guess that's the point, getting my money's worth) and then either a stretch day or free day each week. I struggle with the yoga because unlike the rest of the workout times, it is 1 hour and 45 min. it's a little more difficult to work it in and I HATE yoga, but it feels good to be trying and staying with it, you know? anyways, for today we are free or stretching, I hoping stretching because I just came back from a 30 min run in the hood, trying not to get hit by a car cuz I didn't leave to go out til 520pm. I used the sprints to keep my muscles warm, thanks for those ideas Kathy!

just keeping it up and not quiting is keeping me going. yes, i would like to lose some weight but I will trade it for more energy in the short run.

    thank you girls!

  4. First let me say...I LOST 5 POUNDS!! YAY!! I weight myself every Monday (yup, cheated and weighed myself over the weekend). However, that cheating was what motivated my workout last night...20 minutes on the elliptical and then a half hour on the treadmill. I started really pushing myself last night on the treadmill and was able to run faster, for longer then I have for a while! It's amazing what those 2 pounds I thought I had lost did for refocusing my goals and keeping me not only on a exercise schedule, but a 1200 calorie diet also.

Pam - focus on the good things and try and not fixate on the negative!

Keep up all the good work ladies!! And thank you again for being such great motivators!
